Audiophiles: Good headphones

Hey Guys,

Most people know I am a bit of an audiophile. I noticed some static on my Sony studio headphones a couple of weeks ago and decided to get a new set.

I picked up the AKG K701s which I had been hearing about for some time:

Note that these are studio reference headphones and not for casual audio or DJ use.

I started listening to a bunch of MP3s and immediately picked up on the high amount of compression in the audio. I went through some classic recordings that I had at 320k and was amazed at how good these made them sound. So I started reripping everything at 320k.

Today I decided to go out and get some of the new digitally remastered CDs and SACDs. WOW! Incredible how much you miss even at 320k. I'll be holding on to my CDs until they come out with an iPod that can hold most of these recordings at 640k or more.

If you are looking for a great set of headphones, I'm not sure these can be beat!

they sound better with age, and you need a headphone amp , eek.
