Scaring Cats

Have anyone tried those electronic perimeter thing that claims to scare the cats away?

I am thinking of rebuilding my ponds but I have 2 cats living my lawn and surrounding area.

What would be the best defense without covering the pond with a mesh?

I used to scare the neighbors cat with snaps. Remember those white paper covered things? They come in a small box. You throw them and they snap. It scares the living poop out of cats and after a couple of times, they didn't come back. It also scares dogs too.

BB gun, firecrackers, shotgun, big scary dog. Spray them enough time with a hose and they might learn to stay away. I have a problem with squirrels here - they dig up my garden and destroy my bird feeders. its what happens when kill of there natural predators.

There are a large amount of cats in my neighborhood and they have never once bothered with my fish or pond. They only use it as a source of drinking water (yuck!).
They are also far from inclined to stick their feet in water for anything , nevermind to catch live fish. If most are neighborhood cats (with homes, just out strolling), they will go back to their homes if they are hungry and not bother with your fish.

Oh, and I know 2 people with the electronic things..and no they don't work for cats or raccoons...

FWIW ive seen cats around my pond but never have seen them do more than get a drink. If your worried about your fish that youll stock it with dont be. You have more worries with racoons etc than you do with cats.

ok..a little more about raccoons...
If you are digging the pond yourself make sure it has vertical sides, raccoons are not wading creatures and only really use water to wash off their food. They do NOT like to swim. Being as pudgy as they are they are also not inclined to lean over very far to reach into a fish pond..hence the vertical walls.
It is also suggested that you do not try and make your fish friendly when feeding them as they won't necessarily know that the 'face and eyes' that comes near the pond isn't going to feed them..so they will rush over to the sides and become easy prey.
It is best to keep some sort of large plant (like cattails..lol) in the middle of the pond so the fish will congregate there and not near the edges..and the shade is important for them anyway
