hey guys, i was wondering what kind of turtle/tortoise this is and how to take care of it. my girlfriend's father picked it up yesterday and have no idea what kind it is. currently its living in the backyard thanks guys! ![]() ![]()

I second the above comment. Its a wild turtle so you should put it back where it came from. The turtles that are sold in pet shops (RES and Painted) are captive bred. Do the right thing and have your girl's father put him back where he found it. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

That looks like a wild turtle to me. If it is not too far and safe to do so, the right thing to do is to put it back in its native habitat. That is a almost full grown animal, it will have a much harder time adjusting to your fish tank. You should let him be free. |

I used to catch painted turtles all the time, he will be fine in a tank if you want to keep him. I would not go smaller than 30 gallons though. If you want to let him go, take him down to the edge of the lake or pond near where you found him (I am sure there can't be one to far from where you found him) and let him go. If you let him go to far from a lake or pond he is dead. |
