Reefer Ratings: (16) Friends: (2) | Social Workers/ MSW Degree?
Hi there, I'm planning on enrolling/matriculating into NYU's Master of Social Work program. I eventually would like to work within youth services either in a school setting or in a youth center (most likely a gay/trans/everyone youth services center). I would do this in the extended program for at least 1 year (if I start this coming fall) or at least 1 semester (if I don't start until this coming spring). After that I can stop teaching and finish the program full time. Or of course I can just take 3 years to finish the originally 2 year program and continue teaching the majority of the time. Anyone here have some kind of social work degree? If so where from, what have you done with it, what did you have to do to get it, and what do you plan on doing in the future? This of course was not my major in undergrad. I majored in Marine Biology and did a minor in Gender Studies. My interest/dedication to social sciences is why I decided to join a teaching program instead of going to grad school to continue marine studies. Figured teaching science was the best of both worlds, and that I would really find out if I could...be okay with people and their issues outside of volunteer work/clubs/etc. and I find I like it. |
