Question Skimmer

Is an external skimmer better than internal? I want to use my sump as a refugium and wasn't sure if I'll have enough room for it if the skimmer is internal.

One is not necessarily better than the other. Each reef's setup dictates which works best. In your case, if you don't have room in the sump, an external skimmer would be better than an internal.

it is my understanding that if both options r avail. in sump tends to be more effective. but as surprising as it may seem, i have been known to be wrong.

Sorry to inform you "You are Wrong".

It is incorrect to give a general statement like that, too many variables involved. I do suggest using all MRC skimmers in a sump since they are known to leak, or better yet, put them in the garbage .

Figure out what fits in your application and form a list of possible skimmers, then look them up in the skimmer thread and ask people for their experience on your choice of skimmers.
