Reefer Ratings: (0) Friends: (0) | Hi new to the site it looks very interesting. I need some help i bought a tank on august 27 that same day bought tetra whisper filter, aquaclear power head, live sand , saltwater and stabillity liquid. The next day I got 35 pounds of live rocks but by mistake the person filling in at the store i went to sold me acropora coral at the price of live rock (6.99 pound) the way I found it was coral was that I was looking online for fish , anemones an corals I would like in the future and there I saw that what we got was coral. I started to panic because on the specifications of the acropora coral it said they needed calcium, strotnium, trace elements and special lighting I got all of that but mu concern is are they going to die on me? Inside one of the coral came a fuzzy crab and on some of the rocks some hermit crabs are they going to be ok? We have a friend that knows a litte bit about reef tanks we told him the situation and he told me to get 2 damsels to help with the grow of bacteria so I got those yesterday also. Can I save my tank? Please help Last edited by findingnemo; 10-18-2006 at 04:58 AM. |

well first of all welcome to MR second i would either sell off the coral or let someone hold it for you first since it's a new tank and it doesn't look like you have the lights for it. third got a pic of the acro? Maybe i'll be interested in buying ![]()

Hi, there. You can have someone who has proper tank environment to hold the accro for you until your tank is cycled. Obviously, you don't have enough light for reefing. I think the filter you bought is not the best suited for SW since it will splash a lot along other problems associated this type of filter in reef setting. There are more issues with what you have now, other members will help you further. |

for most sps, like acros you would need something stronger like t-5's or mh, the best bet is jsut to let someone hold on to it first until your setup is settled in and ready for it

First, take a deep breath... Second, I recommend you stop spending money until you decide what type of reeftank you want AND until you figure out exactly what you need. Can anyone provide the link to the recommended equipment? Dean posted the link recently... -Alfred

Let your tank cycle, give te acro to a friend or back to the store and trade it for a nice piece of rock, it may be dead already some places put coral skeletons in their lr tanks take a close up of it if you can. Also Damsels to cycle a tank is old school and isn't done anymore, let the rock and sand cclt the tank by itself. Damsels are also a bear to get out of the tank and they get nasty so that could hurt you getting other more peaceful fish. They will attack new fish that are much bigger than them. Welcome to MR and happy reefing.

I will like an tank that I can have, 2 sea stars,1 blue hippo tang, 2 percula clownfish with anemone, 1 yellow tang , 1 goby or blennie, some hermit crabs, maybe a shrimp, and they soft and hard corals. I wish I could have a Moorish Idol but I have read they need a 70 gallon tank I have a 48 gallon. |

The hippo and the Yellow tangs should not be in a tank that small and especially not together. Perc clowns are ok and goby is ok too, Hold off on the anemone untill your tank is stable and you have good enough lighting they require great water quality, good lighting and a stable tank. The inverts I see no problem with, Some Hard corals are gonna require some good strong lighting, keep that in mind.
