I don't like all glass because I break them so quickly..I had to get the black plastic ones with titanium inside....Everytime I moved something around in my sump I was breaking the glass ones....

I think you answered your own question....

IMO, all heaters can have issues & is one piece of equipment that should be monitored.
I would not use one without some type of temp controller.

By temp control I think Phil means a controller like a reefkeeper or an aquacontroller and other type of controllers in that category.

Yep...

Ranco's are good as well, & inexpensive.
A Heaters thermostat can get stuck on high, causing your tanks temp to get extremely high.

I have no idea why this issue has never been addressed in the aquarium hobby - IMO (and its an opinion) there is NO good OR reliable heater in the hobby.

If anything, the jager's are the closest thing to consistent and safe - but try heating 450 gallons with those in a garage :-(

one way or another, they break down, explode, fail, controllers stick, rot/rust in your tank etc. This would be a money maker if someone could design a close to flawless heater.
