Is it true by adding "uncured live rock" to an established reef will actually be beneficial by adding beneficial organisms? I was eyeing great tonga branch rock @ my lfs & decided to buy a medium sized piece because I liked the shape and look of it.....hope i didn't jeopardize my setup, does anyone have an opinion on this?? |

Actually what it will do if you put enough of it is send your tank into another cycle, it can introduce lots of things to your tank.

How long was it in the LFS's water? If it is UNCURED then that means it was out of the water for a long time and has lots of die off. If it was in the water, taken out, sold to you and put into your tank right away then that it not uncured.

Two questions for you: 1) How big is your system? 2) How long has it been running? I have a tub of old rocks that were once cured and are now definitely uncured (as they've been sitting out of water for months). I regularly dump uncured rocks into my system if I'm changing the rockwork and I would prefer a different piece that I didn't originally use. As long as you aren't putting TOO much rock in, and your system is large enough and established, it should be fine. |
