Reefer Ratings: (15) Friends: (4) | drilling a siphon break into the return
i am thinking of doing away with the checkvalve and just drill a hole in my return to act as a siphon break. the question is can i drill it in the pvc tube that runs vertically in the overflow, or should i drill the hole in the locline that runs horizontally? either way, the hole will be right below the waterline. does it make a difference where i drill it? it looks like it will be easier to drill the pvc, but i am not sure that will work, as the waterlevel in the overflow is below that of the main tank. some help pls. |

Kind of difficut to describe with no pic.. My tank had a spray bar and it was on that PVC pipe (vertical) where the holes were drilled just below the water line(2 holes in case one clogs for whatever reason!)...that's why a pic is important, not sure how your system is laid out.

I actually drilled my threaded locline adapter. between the male threads and the locline 'side there's flat spots where you put the wrench. I took an 1/8" drill bit and drilled 2 holes on one side. when I screwed it back in, I put the drilled side down and back towards the back of the tank. B

in the overflow kit that ships with AGA tanks the hole is drilled on the underside of the 90 degree elbow. It works great. The hole is about 3-4 mm in an 3/4" elbow.
