Question Effects of MH on Acrylic?

I have a 50 Seaclear acrylic 36x12x18 w/ a center brace dead smack in the center....and was wondering if I can upgrade to MH 1-150 watt bulb that would hover 4 inches over this brace, my question is, in due time will the impact of the MH lighting have any affect on the stability of the brace/tank????

I have spoken to several members & the feedback has been 50/50, I have also read threads that stated the MH bulbs melted their acrylic braces...does anyone have an opinion or proof?

Here is your proof. The tank with a 400w MH light. I kept it about 12" off the top. I don't think a 150MH will cause a problem...

4" above the center brace? I'd be concerned the first few days.

Go for it, and check the brace the first couple of days. If you can push your fingernail against the plastic and you can see the indentation afterwards, the plastic has gotten too soft. Then you'll have to move the light further away.
