Best way to cycle new tank???

I was wondering if I were to take water from my weekly changes and added the old water to a new tank would this speed up the cycle period on the new tank??

any thoughts?

Probably helps a little, but a small rock or some sand would have many times the amount of bacteria to help speed the cycle

it would help a little, you are actually waiting for the bacteria to colonize the tank.

A very small percentage of the bacteria you want is in the water column, its mostly everywhere else in your tank.
