Finally Setup My 125 Fowlr!.......

After selling my 110 reef in order to move, I finally set up my 125. I almost killed my self carrying tank up stair myself with a hand truck and an angel on my shoulders, I carryed 2 35 gallon buckets up with the help of my new aprehensive landlord (weighing I dont know a few hundred lbs' each).

So far so good, I had to replace one bulk head but besides that it went pretty smooth. I used 1" plastic tubing for sump plumbing apose to pvc, due to lack of kowledge of that stuff.

One problem with over flow, is that the room is slightly uneven and it wasnt draining down one of the flows, so I had to cut some deeper grooves in the side it wasnt draining and now it is, but making an annoying noise because its coming down in streams. And return pump isnt giving even flow to both sides, but insteade a few secs to one side thatn the other side. I kind of like this because its similar to a more natural current. Any thoughts?

I used all my 100+ lbs. of rock and 20-30 lbs. of old sand (with 100 new esv) and 30 gallons of old water (my other pale was leaking so had to disgard). The rest of the water I shamefully used tap, because my DI faucet adapter broke and they dont seem to sell by itself (checked HD, LFS everywhere) My plan is to get it up and running and use carbon, reactor, and polypad to get some Dissolved solids out and do a cpl monster water changes before I add fish with DI, or hopefully RO DI (pending santas gift). Water is cloudy as hell probably cause I didnt rinse new sand.

Last thought, My skimmer is a DAS EX 2, runs like a beast but due to something (probably tap water treatment) its foaming too much with even a low flow and one of the 2 recirc pumps on, so I have it off now because im off to work and dont want it to overflow while im gone and theres no drainage for cup (anyone who has any DIY ideas for this or ppl who do it, im all ears). Should I just Skim the Sh$# out of it when im home to get impurities out, or wait a few days and then run?

Im using a aquaclear 70 (400 gp, i have it at about 3' of tubing) I was told to use a maxijet 1200 w/ is 300 gph but I was just lowering the flow with the controller, but whenever I use both recirc pumps it gives me too much wet skim any thoughts?

Can't wait to see your tank when it clears up. Do you have a list of the livestock that will go in?

Yo Jay....

Looks great dude.

My main thing though:
If the tank is not leveled to the point that getting water into the overflow is a problem......that's a situation that you must take care of ASAP.
Get some shimmies & a leveler.
Do it right, especially since it's not fully stocked.....as I read of some disasters with un-leveled tanks.

Glad to see that EX kicking. I wish I could have used it.
Yep. That water treatment will do it every time. I believe it's something you would have to wait out, not something you can skim out.

Keep us posted.

Yea that skimmer took more out of my rocks and 1/3 of my water than my old skimmer took out of my 110 in a year, thanks alot!

Yea that unevenness got me a bit stressed. Should I empty it and adjust asap or is it just for asthetics?

List of my dream livestock (Been wanting these fish and either I had a reef or too small a tank):
Sohal tang
Procupine puffer
Humu humu trigger (generic but love em)
Tesselatta eel (They grow really big and aggressive, so might settle on a jewel)
Imperator angel
Maybe's: clown trigger (a little too crazy, some aggressive wrasses, parrot fish, I like butterfly but not sure if they stand a chance)

I really want a stingray, but than I cant get have my planned livestock because aparently they eat there eyeballs

Any suggestions?

Real quick thought: My gf and Everyone else told me the new tank looked rediculous in my small living room in my new apt. So it was banished to a small independent room. As a concilation, they suggested I get a small reef one for my living room.

Think about it, Now I have a room with just a recliner, fish tank, fridge and a small tv (aka heaven), and a reef tank to silence regrets about selling my reef, How about them apples

"Shamefully used tap" it's a FOWLR right? Not a Reef? I proudfully use tap on my 125 FOWLR and it works just fine. If it's just fish with some live rock tap will do.

A Sohal Tang gets to large for a 125gal tank.
A Tesselatta Eel is a very aggressive eel, that also gets very large. It would be better to settle on one of the smaller eels though it's not a good item to mix aggressive eels with Trigger fish.

You need to remember that a 125gal tank is a large reef tank but for fish it's a small tank.
