Update to refrigerated feeding system

IMG_0030-1.jpg

The new set-up can be controlled better now. My refrigerated autofeeding system is now set up and connected to my Profilux 3. All four foods are set to dose through out the day and additional feedings can be dosed by pushing the red buttons on the dosing unit itself. Also, you will notice there are no JG fittings in there :)

Thank you very much. It has been a continuous enjoyed journey. The refrigerated system has honestly been the best investment of time/effort since I have been in hobby and has been receiving positive reponse (original concept I still have to give credit to Steve Weast). It has simplified the task of feeding and I can see it's uses besides my application. Multiple feedings daily can be done for aquarists keeping seahorses or even on fish only systems. With Reef Nutrition bringing Mysis Feast to market and being able to keep mysis refrigerated versus frozen, it kind of changes the game a little bit. The line through the dosing pump would have to be changed/modified to allow mysis to pass through but not really an issue to do so. I have additional plans for the system but I have to take care of a few legal issues to work out before I can say anything ;) By the way, it was very nice meeting you at the frag swap enjoyed when you busted the chops of the AI guy who was at the Cherry Corals booth when you caught him off guard about your user name ;)

Been dieing without my computer latety. It has been two weeks and I havent made up my mind in either having my friend build me one or switch over to the darkside...and go mac.

Recently as well, I switched out skimmers. Lost faith in Bubble Magnus since I have gone through two skimmer pumps in the last year. The new skimmer on the tank is a ETSS Sumpbuddy 40 running on a Mag7 for now. The pump will be switched over to an external pressure rated Pan or Iwaki in the future. Currently using 4 mini bioballs in the tower. With a week in of using it, I am impressed so far with the amount of skim it is producing and break in time was really minimal.

This is amazing!!!! I first got in to sun corals when I got some on live rock and I just fell in love with it! A couple weeks ago I bought a black sun coral colony, and yesterday it spawned sexually. How often do your sun corals spawn?

Thanks Randy! First time it happened, got me real nervous. This is the second time the event has occurred in less than 30 days. Every paper I have had access to on colonial tunicates did not visually show this sequence. If you ever come across "A morphological and immunohistochemical study of programmed cell death in Botryllus schlosseri" by Robert J. Lauzon, Chris W. Patton and Irving L. Weissman let me know. Tried a few sources online, just didnt want to fork over $34 for the pdf.

Thanks

Mike

Randy found a few closely related papers by the authors so I am good ;)

What is interesting is that the event will occur often. The cycle is called blastogenesis. What happens is that the zooids reach maturity, they asexually reproduce buds, the colony of zooids then dies, and simultaneously the buds develop into the next generation of zooids. This process continues to repeat itself as the colony grows. Ahhh.the life a colonial tunicate :)
