Um but arent you running the same risk of hydroids by curing the new rock with the dry ? You're better off curing it separately as a quarantine method to make sure its pest free and then combining it with the old rock ( though it will take longer as you will probably have a second cycle if there is much organic dead stuff in the dry rock ).

Dude, if there are any hydroids left in the dry rock after drying it near the boiler for almost 2 months I will quit the hobby (If your talking about the dry rock). If the new rock happens to have hydroids....well, I guess it was destined to be.

As far as QTing the rock separately: That goes agains the purpose of what I want to do. I want to seed the dry rock with as much life as there is in the uncured rock. Im not sure if you have seen uncured rock that has arrived direct from Fiji before. I was unlucky to get my hands on 100 lbs of the stuff when I first started a FOWLR tank (unlucky because I wish I had gotten regular base rock and had saved the opportunity for the good stuff for now). I helped pick up the shipment from JFK. The rock was covered, inch to inch, millimeter to millimeter, with sponges, corals, algae, small gorgonians, etc... The curing process will kill alot of this organic matter off. But at least there will be a greater biodiversity left over after curing than if I used regular cured rock bought from a tank to seed my dry rock.

Anyone else with info. Ive had 2 people give me info.

Thanks guys.

I think he means to qt it for a little while and then combine them a litle while later on, so after the die off you can check for aptaisia, hydroids, xanthids, etc. and get rid of them before seeding the dried rock.

Okay, I didnt understand it like that. That is something to consider. But again, if I end up with a hydroid invasion again I am selling all of my equipment and finding a new hobby. lol

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for the info. The only problem with them is that they want extra fees for everything. It didnt work out for the 50lbs I wanted.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I found someone that will get me a 50lb box of the fiji rock I want for a good price.
