Hello everybody, does any of our vendors carry or even someone who might be selling a SCWD device. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...m?pcatid=10668

George, the scwd's have been around for quite some time. There have been mixed reviews with many/most people dissatisfied with them. They reduce flow a lot and they are very prone to failure due to salt build up. Maintenance is extremely important with this device. The problem is that the maintenance needs to be done monthly and most people find this to be a laborious task. swimmer

Hey Swimmer, I had been running one for nearly a year with no maintenance, no problems, I think the flow is relative to your tank and pump I am running a mag 7 or 9, i forgot with a 72 bow and got good flow. But I also dont have much in the way for rock to restrict flow around the tank. A member contacted me about it so i will be speaking to him today. As for the maintain I dont think its so bad. the problem is digging the back of the setup and getting to all the hoses. I was curious to see what vendors had it and if it was in stock.

I also have a used one if your current deal falls though George. I ran one of these for over a year also and had no issues with it. Russ, from what I hear the main issue with these comes if sand gets inside of them it causes the gears (which are positively tiny! ) to lock up. I know someone who made a mod for these (so you could take off the top & easily clean them out) but I believe he removed the pics from the site where they were posted.
