Will chaeto out perform/compete green hair algae for phosphates?

Having a small green hair algae problem in my nano and im debating on puttin a clump of chaeto in a netted breeder box, hoping that it will compete and hopefully be successful in absorbing phosphates against the gha

no negative effects.. it is a daily dose.. takes a week to start working but it works wonders as well as increasing o2 levels in your system.. i would get a 3ml syringe use 2.5 ml once a day right into the diplay near a powerhead to mix into the water column.. youll be fine.. i stared a thread on h202 a while back you can read up on it and see eeryones feedback. but i think it will help you..without adding expensive chemicals to your system

Yes royal to your question and is one of the reasons behind a refug. and the choice of Cheato.

On H2O2, one needs to be careful here, as it can really raise the O2 up to dangerous levels. I would advise to get a cheap O2 kit so you at least know you are in the ballpark.

hair algae will grow over any macro algae over time choke off light, and preventing the macro from growing. You need something to graze the hair algae. I find it tough to find something that can climb into and around chato, which is why it slowly died out and was replaced by culerpa prolifera. Tiny hermit crabs, tiny snails or feeder shrimp can climb and graze the micro algae off the leaf. Use whatever you can find and put lots in there. ie, when I went snorkaling, I picked up about 50-100 tiny hermit crabs. Cleared off the hair algae within a few days. Another time, I picked up about 30 feeder shrimp while fishing. Did the same thing. Right now, I have these tiny limpets breeding in the refugium, and they seem to be doing a good job.
Once the hair algae is controlled, the macro can grow easily and quickly.
On a side note,an algae turf scrubber also solves the problem of micro algae over growing macro algae, since macros aren't needed.
