Weekend progress

I was able to work on the tank this weekend and I am don't with plumbing for the most part... I installed the both sumps and connected them and worked on the drain from overflow to sump and plumbed frag tank and thanks to James who took sometime out Sunday to help me adjust the eductors in the tank for proper flow. Originally I had 2 eductors on each closed loop input that will bring the total of eductors to 8 but we decided to remove one from each and now we have 4 in total and they move enough water within the tank.. We were able to cut some pieces from leftover plywood for algae scrubber and I was able to put one together yesterday. I have done first coat of waterproof paint on the outside but inside the scrubber will have same sealer that I have used for the tank. I will lay at least 3 coats of the Dura Rubber since it will have water flowing through in I am not worried for any leaks and 3 coats should be more than enough. I will add more pictures when when I install and this unit to the stand and plumb it will same return pump... More pictures to come.......

One of the earliest build threads I ever read was the 1000gallon plywood tank build on RC. I think its a great way to go especially for an in wall solution and I love the sumps and frag tanks!

Rav, can you explain the dual sump setup. Was it just for convenience between the main and the frag tank? Do they each have their own drain/return sections?

Plywood tank

Yes I agree with you and when I filled the tank I had every thought going through my mind about leaks, collapse, bowing and I was ready to drain the tank with Reeflo pump just in case if something happens but once filled completely and no leaks found I was happy and now its been 1 week and tank is full of water and closed loop is working and moving water around pretty good.....

Looks really nice. Great job. Must be some scary moments putting water in a totally plywood system.

Good luck
Russ

tank...

I have seen plywood tanks much bigger and from 75 gal to 1500 gallons and it is fun and very cost effective specially for in wall systems. Its easier to build and put together.. if anything cut wrong easy to replace with new piece of plywood....and now answer to your question Tank, 2 Sumps, Frag tank all running on one pump and water is from DT and frag tank will be drained in the sump that is all the way to the left. Sump on the left is going to carry filter socks that frame that I have built (Shown in the picture) can hold 4 7" filter socks but most of the time i will running 2 socks only and then I will have Cheato Algae and some mangrove growing in this sump and next sump is connect to first sump with two 2" bulkheads and water travels through and in the next sump is where the return pump is hooked. I don't have any baffles in either of the sumps because by the time water travels to the other side of the sump it will have no bubbles left and I will use this sump for huge refugium growing caulerpa algae and some more mangroves and other marine plants...

tank

I have seen pretty good builds on RC and other forums and for in wall systems this is very cost effective and very easily customized... Now two sumps that I have are connected from to the other via two 2" bulk heads and sump on the left is where are the water from DT and frag tank and algae scrubber is going to be dumped and then water will go through two 7" filter socks and then I will have 2 reactors one for carbon and other for GFO and I will be growing plenty of mangrove in that sump as well.. then water travels through 2nd sump via bulk heads and in that sump I will have refugium with sand and caulerpa, marine plants and more mangroves so that system can have enough pods and other marine life to support the system. I am very big fan of refugium. I hope I answered your question...
