Hey I have a deep blue 30 gal 24"x24"x12" and a 10 gal sump. What kind of skimmer would you recommend? I currently have the Reef Octopus BH-50 and it doesn't do what I thought it would do.

Would like to spend under 200. I'm using a 10 gal sump with a mag 5 as a return so is estimate to have 1/3 to 1/2 of the entire sump

I would definitely check out the marketplace for a used skimmer if you can. You don't need anything crazy.

A Vertex IN-80 would do very well on your tank. I think they're $200.

I had a mag5 in a ten gal on my last setup as well , I think u should get a used tunze 9006 or something along those numbers , they are small German made and skim like all hell , check it out

is that similar to the 9002? I have a 9002 but it requires a good 7-8" of water which only leaves me < 4" for a system fail.

have you had any experience with vertex skimmers?

Sorry for the delayed response. I've used two or three of the Vertex skimmers and at least that many Euro-Reefs. Vertex and ER skimmers are very similar. They aren't fancy, new designs, but they don't need to be. They just work. Well.
