Calcium reactors and Mag

People running calcium reactors do you add anything to your reactor to keep mag stable or do you just dose it. My mag is getting used up quickly and wanted to see if there was a kind of media that can go into the reactor

i read up on it cause i just filled mine and was thinking of adding mag, they say it doesn't do much you will still have to dose. so i didn't bother.

Well shouldn't mag be released as well by aragonite media? Mag was absorbed by the skeletons of stony corals which make up the media. When the media is broken down mag should be released.

No skene. My mag drops quick. I wish that were the case. If it does its not enough to keep the tanks mag up

+1 on that. I used ARM extra coarse and it takes care of the Mag as well.

duke from all my years of being a reefer mag was always dosed at a mucher lower rate then alk and mag. for example i dose 40ml of alk and cal. i dose 15ml of mag to keep it at 1400.

I use zeo mag in the calcium reactor and my mag is always 1480 with no dosing so I would do it if I were you and see if you need to still dose or not

Yeah Im going to try. My alk and calcium are always on point with my reactor but the mag drops. I have been dosing 120 ML of mag every other day and its not moving past 1280.

How old is your tank. I don't think your corals are taking in 120 ml a day. It happened to me once and then it shot up and pushed everything else down so ill b carefull.

Alk at 8.5 calcium at 450. Im checking the mag every other day. Going to pick up some zeo mag

Duke62, I just want you to know one reason I stop using ESV salt was my Mag was to high with little coral I had. You might not be adding the right amount of Mag with ESV salt. Are you testing your Mag level when you are mixing your Salt. Start from there....

I did same and I was getting very high readings. I added exactly what the sheet said. My Mag levels were very high it was always 1800. Try testing a batch and see what reading your getting out of 20 gal new mix. See if its on target in new mix. I think you will see its off....Check.....

Since you are using ESV you can add little more Mag part to your water changes to make your adjustment . All you have to do is add more Epsom salt in the last step of making salt. Will help in your levels being higher than 1250...
