My cheato isnt looking so good. i've been using a compact light bulb (the one that swirls around) attached to a reflector but it hasnt been doing me any good. was wondering what you would recommend for a small refugium (total volume of maybe 3-4 gallons) located in the center of a 10g sump
I have the acqueon proflex sump model 1 and the JBJ Nano refugium light. My chaeto would get brown and start to break apart until I realized that the light was too close. I mounted the light on the top of the cabinet, maybe a foot and a half from the chaeto and it regained its color and is growing at such a pace where I need to prune it once a month.
Whatever you get (florescent, incandescent, or LED), it will work better if it's around 6700K spectrum.
I've used all three types of light source over the fuge. And with the LED I noticed that it burned the chatoemorpha in the beginning. I had to raise the fixture and actually acclimate it to the light source.
