Hi, I need an advise on the tiny hippo tang I have for a few days in the QT. It's scratching on the rock when the light turns on in the morning. I don't see any ich (white dot) on the fish body. Should I use copper on the fish? The fish is very tiny and I'm afraid that it can't tolerate the copper.

If the fish is eating, I would not use copper yet. If you can get him to eat some small pellets soaked in selcon or another vitamin I think that would work. Tangs have a very fast metabolism and lose weight very quickly which stresses them out.

Good luck

the best way to prevent from having ick is to treat them with copper or hyposalinity.

ask yourself this, why do you put it in the QT? just to monitor the health of the fish?
if you do not treat it, there is a chance that you could introduce ick or other parasites to your display tank.
I always treat all fish with copper for 3-4 weeks (regardless their health condition) before I introduce them into the display.

Good luck
