Is there such a thing as having an obese Mandarin? I know they're supposed to be fat but my female is about 2.5" has a skinny body and a huge belly (behind her dorsal fins). Just wondering if that is normal.

My male is filling out more and has fattened up quite a bit since I've gotten him.

I'll try to get a pic but I just fed my tank phyto

well if its a "bulging" or swollen stomach then it might be starving. if its healthy and eating well it should be filling out everywhere. pics would help.

blurry pics, I'll try to take some more tomorrow. They were doing their "dance" again in the back of the tank so it was tough to get anything close.

that's what I was thinking...she's bloated with eggs... but that's why I'm asking. They dance about 4 times a week always about an hour before the lights go off... I've only watched long enough to see her release the eggs into the water column twice. They immediately get eatin by my chromis.

They're both on Frozen btw... I target feed them 4 times a day with piscine mysis and hikari spirulina brine (both saturated in vitamin spray) Both mandarins will eat about 5 pieces of each at each feeding before they move on. They actually swim up now towards my sea squirt and eat right out of it. I find it hard to believe they're starving.

is that the female looking all bloated? if so, i would say she's prego. too bad the babies aren't easy to raise. let us know if her belly disappears or if you spot any eggs.
