Len, I'm sorry to hear that,
I hope it pulls through.
My original one is still doing well, though he likes to hide for a day or two at a time. I think you called it ,BTW, when you said it was a one off chance.
I've not seen or heard of any more coming in.

How many people's Borbs are still doing well?

I had a really bad scare after I administered flatworm exit. I thought I lost mine, but it finally came out today (after 36 hours in hiding).

my borb did the same, was hella scary but he's swimin around again. my ventralis is nowhere to be found.

Well, the borb came out to eat today (finally!). It's body looks a bit tattered, and most of it's soft dorsal and caudal fin have eroded. This happened to all my other fish too, but days earlier. I'm hoping the borb will recover like the other fish.

Man, flatworms are nasty!

This has convinced me to never use that stuff. Even if it's toxins from the dying flatworms, I think someone as careful as you having problems is a scary sign.

I didn't want to use it, but I didn't have a choice IMO. Biological control is ideal, but it's also very spotty; For everyone one guy who has some critter worked, there are 20 others that say it didn't.

I suppose I could have waited and hoped they died out (which I've seen happen). But it's gambling on the flatworms not growing to epic proportions, after which FWE would really have killed everything.

I wish I had caught the worm infestation months earlier.

P.S. My borb is out and about a lot now. Its fins are really tattered, and it seems to be suffering from swim bladder issues now. I'm hoping this all heals.

What do you guys feed your Borbs? I'm wondering if the recent buoyancy problem with mine is due to diet (food impaction in its digestive tract causing trapped air).

Len, this can be an issue when small fish are feeding exclusively on Cyclop-eeze. It tends to stick together in clumps and block narrow passageways in the digestive tract. We had some larval wolf eels that were showing signs of this until we switched them to small mysids and bloodworms. I don't recall any buoyancy issues, but wolf eels are much more negatively bouyant than your borb to start with.

That's a bit odd as I know some commercial hatcheries feed CyclopEeze to their larvae with no other diet prep. Usually if a feed has problems like that they add to the feed ingredients to eliviate the problem. Might have to do with the larvae though and their natural prey.

There's a stage where we feed seahorses Cyclop-eeze pretty much exclusively, and they do just fine. Rereading my post it's a bit confusing--I didn't mean to imply that it is a problem with the feed, just that it might be worth a try to switch foods if he can.

Update: My Borb is fully recovered 8) And I've seen it poop on several occasions. His buoyancy is great now, but he still loves to hang upside down on the rocks. Fins are all regrown, but the color isn't all back on the new growth. It's a spunky and amusing fish.

just saw some borbs at dark lord last night...they also got some nice cherry anthias in.

the waters should be warming up and more borbs should start flowing in...

I saw those Borbs a few weeks ago there, they looked happy and healthy

Are these from the original batch that came in the spring?
Also, what are you calling cherry anthias?

yes they are from the spring. i believe the cherry's are Sacura margaritacea? Liveaquaria was selling a trio of them...
