Today i was laying in my bed after work looking at my tank and talking to a friend from HWI. All the sudden i noticed that one of my eggs was empty. I jumped up and starting searching around the tank. And sure enough after MONTHS of waiting one of my chain shark eggs finally hatched. I caught these eggs back in July of this year deep sea fishing about 45 miles off shore.

Great fishie! What temperature are you keeping it at? These are a temperate species correct?

That is so cool! And timely for me - I just saw one last night on the ROV camera. We are working on a project 1500' deep in the gulf and there was an adult chain shark sitting on the subsea christmas-tree and didn't give a care in the world about the ROV. Just as an FYI it is 9 degrees c where we are.

Very cool - yours is awesome. Good luck!

She was hatched at 70F but since the berth i have drooped the tank down to 66F. Yes these are temperate species. I am in uncharted waters and have a lot of biologist following what i am doing. There all rooting for me to pull this off. Got 6 more eggs to go.

Hi James, That is so cool. I wish i could see the adult chain shark pic you took. Would u be able to post it here? Also any info on these sharks that you can share would be great. This so far has been far from easy to accomplish.

You may want to contact Joe Y at Atlantis if you haven't already. They had a number of these hatched from eggs and several adults too. I don't know if they were breeding or wild caught but he said their care was pretty undemanding.

I know Joe well. We ran into each other a few time's laity and when we did we chatted about the sharks. He had his in 55F that's why it's considered uncharted waters what i am doing.
