I would like small (3) school of anthias for my 54, however its obviously not the largest of tanks. Do any anthias stay fairly small, fairly hardy and would be appropriate for this size tank?
Liveaquaria has a few trios in there divers den section.
Ya I had one not to long ago, ate like a pig.Pulled through like a champ when I went on vacation, I couldn't ID it before died.He had the unique feature of a blue-ish purple-ish stripe under his eye unlike most other anthias that have reddish pinkish ones. To bad he thought my floor would be a nice place to surf:irked:
Thanks H20,
my question pertains more to my tank being on the small side, and wondering If any particular type of anthias would be a better idea, due to circumstances
I think fathead sunbursts are the smallest that are readily available. LA is offering a trio of barletts which are 3" max which is on the small side for anthias.
Id perfer the trio if possible but not sure if its realistic with the setup I have now. I also believe they have to eat 3 times a day or so, and that is kind of a problem in a sos tank where low Phosphates are the name of the game
Hey,
Check out mike at NYaquatics. I was there about a month ago to pick up my tang and he had schools of i believe bartlett anthias that were all eating pellets.
I'm not sure if he still has them but he might.
Ya, they prefer to be fed often, but it doesn't have to be alot. What I did is take a cube of frozen food, defrost it in a beaker with tank water(with garlic)and I just gradually poured some in as the day went by. He was really happy to eat 5-6 times a day. When I went on vacation for a week the automatic would only feed twice a day and only dry food, he tore the flake apart like anything and was nice and healthy when I got back despite a skimmer malfunction.
I think anthias are classified as delicate because they ship poorly and their eating habits. They need alot oxygen so getting them in your tank fast is a good idea. Or better yet, drip acclimate them with an airstone in the bucket. Also check this out, he ordered anthias from LA with little issues.
