that looks like head erosion. It is uncurable. They eventually will die from it. The disease starts around the eyes and spreads. My yellow tang has had it for about a year and a half. The only way to help the fish live longer and stop the spreading is by dosing the crap out of your food with selcon because head erosion is caused by not having enough Amino Acids and protein and vitamins in the fishes diet.

Yes I will agree with the fact that captivity has all to do with it ...I did start feeding a vitamin supliment. I will look into the garlic and vitamin C. I also started using an addative from Reef Solution ... it helps in healing and faded colors. It is all natural .... fingers are crossed

Hippo tangs are nice fish but get sick toooooo easy. I have always wanted one but I do not want to chance it. I also like powder blue tangs. They are my favorite tang of that body shape. They get sick soo easily too.

Yes well I started out with a 12 gal thought it would be fun ... and yes it is. Then someone knew how into it I was and she gave me her 75 gal fish and all. Very nice ... I am leanring and adding to it. The Hiipo is I guess full size. His charaictoristics are great though timid. I do notice he is the most nervious in the tank ... I always though that was to blame for his problem. Judging from all the info I have obtained it very well could be .... if I have success over time I will deffinatly document it here. You guys have been great ....
