When do you start worrying?

Generally guys,

When do you start worrying about fish that you haven't seen.

I do a fish count everyday... but problem is I leave the house at 7 am and come back at 9pm. Right now I can't find my small hippo tang (1 day) and my small Royal Gramma (a week).

I also have an engineer goby who is really active... could he have possibly buried the fish while it was sleeping?

Should I be flipping out? I have A LOT of caves in my tank.

you should start worrying when you stay up all night with a red flashlight looking for the fish.

Yes, a flashlight with a red piece of plastic (like you'd find on an Easter basket or wrapped around a cookie tray ) film over it is used to look in the tank when the lights are off without bothering the fish/inverts. You can see them, but they can't see you and therefore you don't upset them and can spy on them to your hearts content

btw...a week is a long time not to have seen the Gramma...have you checked your ammonia level to see if it went up at all?

No Ammonia. No idea where he is... last time I saw him he darted into a rock and that was it. For some reason this happens often for me. I didn't see my firefish for 2 weeks and then all of a sudden he is out swimming everyday now.

I will probably do the red flashlight thing. But it's crazy because my Aquascape really gives these fish A LOT of hiding spots. I also have 4 Peppermint Shrimp in there and 4 Nassarius Snails... So if the fish died at least my inverts are well fed =X

More worried about the hippo tang... thing cost a lot!
