There are fish fads, just like any other hobby.

so true. absolutely nothing special about them.. just makes you feel cool to have one.. like the "new jordan's" or something.. it's funny to see people fool themselves and say.. oh he's so beautiful.. my favorite fish.. lol.. yea.. ok.. ugly a$$ big eye mean grumpy looking fish... lol.

its one thing if you are a OVERALL fan of anthias.. otherwise.. eh.. nothing special IMO.

i remember a few years back i went to a dude's house to pick up a cube.. and he was like so proud about this fish and tryign to show me how he found this "rare fish" for cheap or something.. i remember just looking at that fish and saying.. you paid what for that?? lol.. why?? i think he was insulted.. i had no idea what the fish was.. needless to say.. he didnt do any better on the price of the cube afterwards... lol.. oh well.. like i insulted his child or something.. lol.. sensitive fish owner i guess.

i mean hey.. whatever floats your boat right?? personally i love algea blenny's i think they are one of the most unique and personality filled fish around.. i can watch them for hours.. and let me tell you.. that thing looks like somethign from an 40's or 50's black and white swamp thing movie.. so its all in the taste i guess.. only difference is.. the algea blenny is only $11.99

Its subjective just like anything else when it comes to the senses. For example, one may think his or her partner is the most attractive being. On the other hand someone else may not think so.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. At least thats what granny said. I actually think its a beatiful fish, and for $70 I think its worth the price. However, if it were in the $1-400 range like I have seen, I wouldnt buy it, but, I would still admire it from a distance. Im not paying over a $100 for any fish.

B, tell us how you really feel.. was it ugly??

I'd say if the fish needs a minimun of a 90g that a 46 bow would be too small.

I am leary of deep water species for their longevity in our tanks. Though most fish never last as long as they should, how many have to be lost just to have the "newest" trend in fish?

Typically we would buy whatever fish struck our fancy when shopping around, if we knew basic care on them.. or simply grabbed a book off the shelf of the LFS to gain some quick knowledge. Now though we are making more educated choices. Yes, everyone can say that none of us should keep any fish for a myriad of reasons. Ultimately it is up to the individual and if you can provide the best possible care for the fish in question.

Anyone know anyone that has been able to keep one for a significant period of time?

I only recently noticed them when I saw the $$ huge price tag and now the dramatic decline.
