I have a 4-5" yellow tang and had a 4" clown tang that recently died in my 90 gal. I'm thinking about getting a gold rim and was wondering if I should try and find one as large as the yellow or would it better to introduce a smaller one?

How about adding two tangs at the same time rather than one? All you need is couple of DIY Isolation Motel! Had great success when adding any new fish but it has to be large/clear/enough holes for circulations. Let new fish really adjust to your water and let them see/flare at each other for few days and release them at Night (dark).

When adding a new tang, I also keep the lights off for a day or two to let everyone settle down. I have found this to work very well. I agree though, I'd go bigger than the yellow.
