I have had my watchman goby for a few months, and watch him all the time. He doesn't do much more than the occasional deep 'breath' and sigh. A couple of nights ago, I saw him do something really strange. He swam out of his cave, and grabbed a snail or hermit, in his mouth and brought it into his cave. He came right back out so I dont think he ate it. A few minutes later, he saw an other critter near his cave, and he grabbed it too. Ive seen him do this 5 times now, so It's not a fluke.

Its pretty funny to watch, he looks like a dog playing fetch, though if he is eating all my snails, Im gonna be pissed. Does anybody have any idea what he is doing? Is he eating them, or is he just collecting shells?

don't think they eat them. they just like to decorate all the time. they are very smart buildres. they put larger pieces of rock or rubble around their cave so the sand doesn't cave in on them.

probably just collecting shells. I had a goby once that took the shells of the old dead ones from the back along with little broken pieces of rock and brought them into his cave.
