My first post...so Hi all. I cannot seem to find a RG at any of the LFS's that eats frozen food just dropped into the aquarium, and I just don't want to leave it to chance that there are enough pods, etc in my tank. I have a small CPR hob refugium, have copeods in the tank, but have no idea if its enough--especially in a small tank.

So, I was wondering if anybody had any food formulations (homemade or store bought) that they've used with this type of fish? I know they sift sand but they also seem to pick at rocks and algae looking for food. I'm wondering if there is something that might sit on the sand or be pasted on a rock or something like that?

Maybe I can make something like a Mysis/daphnia paste? But I just don't know how to get it to stay put. The only thought I had was I might experiment & try to make some Mysis jello with Knox gelatin and see if that stays put in my tank.

Fyi, the only other fish in this 1 year old 20G reef tank is currently a firefish and the RG would be the only other addition.

Thanks.

Rainford's Gobies rarely eat prepared foods and consequently often perish in captivity. They do sift the sand as you say and will also eat filamentous algae. Your best bet might be something like cyclopeeze either frozen of dried that if not consumed in the water column will fall to the sandbed where it MIGHT be eaten as part of the sifting behavior.

So as much as I like this fish, I guess I should probably forget it unless I can find the rare example that is less picky?

Or get a 100 gallon with just one Rainfords as my only fish..j/k

Nice Javier. I may circle back w you in a month or so to see how he's doing.

I'd have no problem getting some algae going in the tank if that's what's needed. I'm good at that apparently.
