got a question. i have had a female in the tank for a while and couple of weeks ago picked up a tank bred ocellaris again as the last one was killed by the female. this time she seems to be getting along with the male and together they host the brain coral she was working on before he came along. now all day long he hangs out in the back of the tank like he is watching something (perhaps eggs) she wanders there every so often but is always eager to eat. he however has dedicated himself to the back of the tank and shows no interest in food even if i target feed him. when the lights go off i can find him together with the female in the brain coral. however he is starting to look very drawn and thin.anything i can do. used garlic, mysis etc.

I have a maroon pair. My male did the same thing for a few days. Then he was okay. Startird eating again, and stopped the stange behavior.

could be afraid to eat for fear of the women beating him...have you tried seperating the male and female via plastic? A fish container perhaps?

That might give the male the security to eat something

they are in a 110 gallon and he hangs out on the bottom near the overflow in the center. like he is attending something. breathing is noticeably more than the female but the area where he hangs out all day is in a heavier flow. she goes back there and he comes out slaps the brain coral and then goes back again. if there are eggs in there i wouldn't be able to get at them because it must be on the base rock. would be nice for my kid to see though. might put a piece of tile in there to see if they will lay on the tile to remove it but first need to figure out what i am looking for.

Thanks Mr First you were right. two nights ago he looked completely exhausted his eyes were all drawn in from not eating. he went over to the brain they host and just layed in the folds. I thought that was it for him but threw a little food near him and now he is all about again. eating out of hands. no sign of anything being born but they would not stand a chance anyway with the other animals in the tank. gonna try the tile to see if they lay on that.
