im looking for a quality dip that can be used on fish. i have a hospitol tank, but, i would like to dip them prior to qt. is there any out there that are proven, or better than the next?

First you need to figure out what they have and then depending on what they have, a dip may or mayn't be needed.
As for what to use, either do a fresh water bath in fresh water, Ph and temp adjusted, or a dip in fresh water containing formalin. Then again it all depends on what they have, as most of the time a fresh bath or dip doesn't do anything but stress the fish out even more.

+1 i always do a 5 minute fresh water dip, actually lfs gives me a bag of water from his cichlad tank to use

whats the pH range on african cichlid tanks???

African Cichlids are from, well, Africa
And African Cichlids are a high pH freshwater fish, in the 8 pH range.swimmer
Do you actually go through that much trouble?
I double dose copper in the same bucket I am dripping the fish in.

WHOOO HOOO!!! LOL, i caught that but could respond fast enough. I thought they were on alk side of the pH range just wasnt aware it was so close to the saltwater pH... LOL

Since I don't usually dip or fresh water bath any of my fish I don't do this. In the rare times that I have, I've always made sure the Ph and temp was about the same.
Usually I just QT my fish and treat only if I see something. Once I feel the fish are ok I then transfer them to the main tank. I usually don't drip them, from the QT to the main tank, as I'm use the water from the main tank in the QT.

ive QT'd fish for weeks and they would be fine, then all of a sudden the whole tank gets ICK. i dont like the QT method. it hasnt worked in my favor yet. but the dipping has.

The problem with dips/bath is the only ich you might remove is the ones that you can see on the fish body or possibly in the gills, but even then the fresh water mayn't make the ich fall off. Also the ich, that is living inside the fish, wouldn't be affected by the fresh water dips/bath.

i certainly understand the life cycle of ich. im just picking ppls brains for the most part. ppl come up with some amazing ideas and methods

I think a lot of times people do things and just get lucky and nothing happens. But it just takes one time to lose everything.

or even if u cure what is on the fish ive always felt all systems contain ich, and usually a new fish i sstressed some and will break out in it
