Been around for a couple months now and canm not get rid of. It seems like I have tried everything. It seems that it started around same time that I introduced a new crushed coral substrate to tank to keep sand down due to wrasse and flow. I also changed combo of ATI bulbs. Got rid of GE 6500 and replaced with ati blue plus, and also changed from kz fiji to ati's version. I have a sunpower (combo 2 ati special, 3 blue + and one ati purple)(2 months old) it is on a 58 gallon 21 high. I run carbon and just started GFO about a week ago. I have a sump with macro, octpus skimmer. Flow= 1 mp10 and 2 korillias. 2 inch in tank sand bed. Mixed coral and fish. tank been up for 2 + yrs. **** like this is real discouraging and makes me wonder why I continue my love for this hobby. It has killed nearly all of my sps. It is a slime like red algae. I is probably cyano. long and stingy with bubbles on rock and sand bed. I have siphoned out. I have used chem clean twice weekly water changes. It seems to grey out after chem clean but comes back. I use a RO/DI filtered water( newly changed out ). weekly water change with brightwell salt. Iseems to flow in tank and get caught on SPS and start to cover. I have blacked out tank and almost stopped feeding with no results. I am at my wits end. Levels are 1.025, ph 8.2ish, temp 77.7 +- 0.5, ca 420, mg 1300ish, stopped vodka dosing months ago. nitrates, PO4 0. 2 part dosing (BRS) nacho3, cacl. Please help. Also most of my polyps and my long time anemone not doing so hot. I am clueless please help.

It's probably the dreaded Dino-flagellates.Is it golden in color?Tough one to get out.The sand caused the Silicate increase and doing water changes will make it worse believe it or not.Gotta starve it out and raise the PH to 8.6 for a little while. If it's red,it's Cyano and easier to handle.

How long do you keep the lights on for? I had the same problem when I first upgraded my lighting. I got this red slimy stuff which I first though was coraline algae, but it was cyano. I first was leaving the lights on for 12hrs. I reduced to eight hours and got ride of it. Good luck

How much water do you change on a weekly basis i had the same problem and what i did was a 15 gallon change every week for three weeks I'd mix my water and let it circulate for a day or so and after adding the water i aimed my inlet to the tank in the direction of the red area(you'd wanna take out all the slime you can by siphoning) i cut down on my feeding to twice a day and the amount that i fed to half,my lighting to (6 hrs whites) (blue 15 mins). Ive heard that vodka dosing might cause it too if used too much but you said that you stopped try the 15 gallons for three weeks and every time you do it do a 5 gallon from the sump as well so (10 gallon display) and (5 gallon sump) hope this helps you..............................
