Diatom issue/suggestions!?!?!

Hey MR... for the last month I have been combating a diatom out break. this is the second outbreak. The first one was during cycling. My plan has been to do the same as the first outbreak, basically wait it out. My skimmer(ACUA C EV180) hasnt skimmed in about a month. I added herbtana a little over a month ago and the skimmer went outta wack. I know reef safe treatments dont work but after a week there were no visible signs of ICH on any of my fish and the fish are all doing well. I was wondering if the lack of my water being skimmed may be the problem. My filter socks are out skimming my skimmer. The skimmer worked great proir to adding the herbtana. I feed twice daily with the addition of a half sheet of nori. Halides are on for 8 hours daily. I do 30 gallon water changes and test weekly. Any suggestions would help. As a point my tank is a 210RR and finished cycling during the 1st week of March. THANKS!!!

I feed once a day, my lights are on only 6hrs a day and still it's all over my sand bed. I have to korilia 1050 and still :-( ......

I have a MP40 and korilia 1400(to be replace with another MP40).

Running gfo helps and carbon as well.I guess waiting it out is always an option.I guess keep brushing it off but it keeps coming back in some areas

i had bad diatoms this spring, here's what i did to get rid of them, not sure if it will work for you.

ran without a filter sock
got a clean up crew from reef cleaners
added a sand sifting goby
held off on a water change for 3 weeks
ran phosguard in my reactor

I need to change my filter works so I'll try going without them. I don't understand how not doing a water change would help???

Diatoms can be the result of large water changes causing a mini cycle so staying off the changes gives it a chance to mature a bit again.

Ok I will try that since I've been doing 120 gallons a month. I'll just test my water more often to make sure everything else is going as planned. Always nice to learn something. Thanks guys.
