I have 2 tanks, a display tank and a nano tank. The display tank has previously used for a number of years an Aquatinics MH/T5 light that sat on the tank, and my nano had an open top with fan.
For the previous 2 years, the display tank, would consistently be on starting in May, where the nano tank, was sufficiently cooled with the fan, until the room temperature reached 89 degrees.
This year, I converted the display tank, to a T5 hanging fixture setup. So totally open top. Not as pretty, is I have a large fan blowing on 1 side of tank, that goes on when tank gets hot.
So the display tank, has the fan go on at 81 degrees and the chiller going on at 83 degrees. So far this setup, has only seen the chiller go on during the installation of my new chiller. So definitely, saving some money.
