i have been thinking about where to mount my return pump.. would i run into a problem if i put my pump under my sump? if i run it next to the tank it will take up my whole platform. i would like the extra space i have to serve as a work bench for testing or any other items i will need to put there while working on the tank. the pump is a reeflo hammerhead gold

as long as you keep the water level high in the return area high you will be ok. once water level drops you will have problems. if any air gets into the pump it will not be able to prime itself. The pump you have is not self priming, which means water has to be in the volute to start.

come on be different, lol. you asked for an opininion,
Did you ever think of adding more water volume by placing another tank underneath that one. have the 1 on top feed the bottom, do not put any baffles on the bottom sump and put the return pump on the opposite side.
