Okay I'm looking at my emerald crab eating and I noticed that he picks up a small starfish( the ones that have been eating my zoas) and he goes to work on it spinning it and eating it , is that even natural for them to do??
BTW: I'm still looking for a shrimp ....

Then i take a hammer frag I have out to shave of some pink sponge growing on it . I go to put the frag back and some big pease of left over sponge comes off and my freaking blue tang swoops in and eats it :-/
It's that good-bad???

You might want to make sure it's a emerald and not some stone or Gorilla crab.Does it have black tips on it's claws?The Tang will be fine even though I thought only Angels like sponges but maybe tangs like them too.

No it's a emerald crab I haven't seen him do it no more :-/
And the hippo tang seams to be fine.
It was just weird lol

How do you now its a emerald crab ?. Gorilla crab look the same

First 99.9% of either stone crab or gorilla crabs have a blackish tip on there claws that's just the start!
Here's my question to you what would make you think I don't know the difference???? Yes I do have only have one year in ONLY, but lots of reading goes a long way ;-)

BTW: Emerald crabs when they are a bit "older" grow a bit of a whitish tip on there claw, and it flattens on the tip also ;-)

Another BTW: in the O.P. I asked is it normal for the crab to be doing that. Not what type of crab it was buds ;-)

Crabs are omnivores, they will all pretty much kill IME before starving. Feed him a sinking granule food and he should stop,, they prefer an easy meal to one they have to work for. I have seen emeralds do the same thing when they run out of food.
