Some of the decisions to leave the hobby as of late have also been due to some personal issues and those people chose to focus more effort on them than the hobby. I admire those members for their decision and applaud them as well. I too have been contemplating a breakdown but since my tank is very small I don't think I will need to. But I am still thinking about it.

$20k isn't that much. My big tank cost $10k just to get it up and running w/ no livestock. Then I stopped counting ;)

If I added everything up I have spent to date in this hobby I wouldn't be surprised if it was over $30k.

People are always getting in and getting out. Like people said it always happens in the summer. However, I feel like it is worse with today's economy. Luxuries are the first to go when money gets tight.
Down here the LFS's are struggling to stay afloat.

I feel like one of the biggest mistakes in this hobby for beginners myself included is buying alot of high end corals before you have a good grasp on how to keep parameters and temp stable which leads to some tank crashes and then ppl get discouraged
Ive just become so involved in the hobby can't imagine not haveing a tank of some sort

Yea I agree and I feel the same way sometimes like when I lose a fish or a really nice zoa but I have too much love for the hobby to just give it up. Heck this hobby is a main reason why I don't have my 69' continental finished hopefully my addicition for buyin chalices and zoas will stop and I can concentrate on my car build another expensive hobby
