Can't get rid of ick

I cannot get rid of the ick in my tank. I have tried two different natural remedies (Fish Keeper and Herbtana) so as not to put my shrimp at risk, but nothing is working. Is there any way to treat ick using a copper based med without losing my shrimp? Does anyone know of something else that might work. I've lost 2 fish so far, and 3 others are infected. Any suggestions would be apprciated.

Unfortunately the only 2 cures for ich are copper and hypo, both are fatal to inverts. In either case it's best to leave the tank fallow for 6 to 8 weeks and treat fish in a QT tank.

You can set up a QT tank and treat the fish in there. if the shrimp has ick you are going to have to treat it some how.

you should set up a hospital tank to treat the fish seperately and keep them in there for a few months until all the ick in your main tank has been starved out.

I would purchase a bottle of kordon ich attack 100% organic follow instructions on back of bottle according to your tank size but dose the total amount in small doses.lets say it tells you 30ml total for your tank size well you would pour 5 ml gradulary reaching 30ml thru out the day.your shrimp should be good if u follow what im saying.also remove any carbon you may have in you system,raise your tempature to about 80 degrees...it worked for me so I thought I pass it to you.remember dose it slowly not all in one shot you will regret it.

I am going to give this a try and hope it works. It would be rather difficult for me to catch all my fish to put them into a hospital tank. I have several that hide in the rock all day and I'm sure it would take me days to catch them. Not to mention the fact that I would need to get all the necessary equipment to set up a hospital tank.

this is the only method that worked for me, 8 weeks is more then enough time

When my tank was infected with ich years ago, when I first purchased two tangs from a LFS, i put a 54W UV into the circulation. No medications. Never have ich again since then.

I had the same problem when i first entered the hobby...... Someone told me to put my tank around 82 degrees which will prevent the ich from re-hatching in the tank. Now i run my tank a little warmer and haven't had a problem.

you got to be careful when speaking with inverts though, a few degrees can mean the difference between flourishing and perishing. Weesley is right though. UVs are great because it is able to kill ich at its free floating level.

ich attack works wonders my flame wrasse was covered in it unfortunately i had to use the whole bottle before it went away

Generally you never never never never medicate your display tank. Also if you raise the temp on the tank that speeds up the cycle of the ick. So it hatches quicker. Do what you want but many people here have given you the same advice of a hospital tank, that is the best way.

if you have a big tank its a pain to catch the fish if he has ich and you make a trap he wont go in cause he wont eat you go in there with a net so much stress to the fish that youll kill it and end up tanking your whole tank apart another way is to add garlic extract to the fishes diet

Garlic only helps boost the immune system of the fish. It is not a cure.

feed your fish right i have brought fish into my reef that had ich all other fish are ok and the fish that had ick after stress and good food go's away try good food rod's food pe mysis kent garlic and brightwell amino omega 3/6hufa you wont have no more ick

Everyone has they own way of doing it.the way I explained work the best for me,if you chase your fish around you would just stress them out even more.no need to buy extra stuff just the bottle, and I mixed it with some fish food I made and all my greedy fish ate it,(that probably worked well to) and most of your tank gets treated as well.remember when your done with the treatment you should do a water change.

Thanks, this was a great video. I actually have a tank that I was using for freshwater that I just emptied because I am going to switch it over to housing two seahorses. I think I will turn it into a temp. hospital tank until I'm ready to move forward with my seahorse project. I just need to figure out how to get my fish out without tearing my tank apart.

Unless you have a fish trap you're gonna have to tear the tank appart. Don't believe the hype---there is no reefsafe ich treatment--don't waste your $$$. I don't like the hypo method. If all you are worried about is shrimp take them out! I treated my tank with cupramine by seachem. This worked great and it is removable with carbon or cuprasorb. And you can later add corals and inverts if you choose. I left my crabs in with the treatment and they survived. Can't say the same for snails. 2 weeks of treatment followed by 2 weeks of cuprasorb. Ich is not in my tank anymore. And i run a turbotwist uv sterilizer now as well
