I mean, worse case, just let the fish die then wait 3 months and put new fish in. Depends on how attached to your fish you are and if you can get them out of the tank.

But if I had a few $20 fish, I'd jut let them die off, wait, then restock.

Thats why everyone should have a quarantine tank

Do you live in a NYC apartment or have you ever been in one? I know a lot of people (including myself) have no room for a hospital tank. I'd love to set one up, but I cant. So I have to rely on a few very reputable vendors that QT the fish for me.

In a perfect world, you are correct. but.

The methods that really work require a hospital tank. The others methods mentioned here may have worked but if they really did then everone would be using and suggesting it. Chances are that these were either not ich or the fish fought it off and are now immune to it. That means you could just try to give your fish quality food, keep the water in great shape and hope they overcome it on their own. It can work. And even if you lose some that can also happen when they are treated. Not all fish live through treatments.
I have used copper in a qt and some fish made it and others didn't. The last time I did not use copper or anything else and I lost some fish and some made it. I have since added fish with no problems.

+1, another alternative is if you can find a friend that would be willing to help heal your fish. For some of my friends who live in apartments, they store a spare tank with an air pump and sponge filter that is only used when they need it.

Are you sure something else isnt stressing your fish and the ich is taking advantage? Maybe there are other issues that are making the fish more prone to catching ich that could be easier to address.

It's still there. I read that all fish carry ich all the time. Unless it's immune. And that there's an outbreak when they are stressed. I don't know how true this statement is. I was running a fowler. And have used cupramine to combat ich. It worked great. And I haven't had an outbreak since. I also run a uv sterilizer. It's said that it kills most things that go through it. But it has to run very slow to effectively kill. The light needs enough time to work. So I run mine very slow. Unfortunately I added some corals and introduced new fish recently and have seen ich appear in the past couple of days. So I plan on removing the corals and doing another treatment. Oh and by the way. U can introduce corals after removing cupramine with carbon or cuprisorb.

It's not true. First, ich is a parasite, which once it works it way through a fish, it;s no longer in the fish. So unless the fish become reinfected, the fish will be clear of ich. As for stress causing an outbreak, that the furthest from the true. Stress may cause a fish to not be able to fight off the ich, but it doesn't cause it. If there isn't ich in the tank, the fish isn't going to get it, no matter how stress out it is.

Thanks for clearing that up. One thing that's a fact is I hate the bugger. Wish it never existed. I only been in the hobby a little more than a year now and have been battling it since my first tank. I almost gave up the hobby because of it. I've lost the first battle. But I've won every one after. Since learning how cupramine works. Yeah I know I swear by the stuff. They should pay me for promoting it. But I had great results with it. They designed it so it's attached to some protein molecule and because of that you're able to remove it with ease.
