Wow!!!

I just did some calculations!! I def need to "INVEST" in an RODI!!!

I am currently paying about 4.50 for 7 gallons of RO water.

.64 cents a gallon

I just calculated out much a gallon of water cost me from my tap!

13464 gallons I used one cycle and cost 82.54.
Final Cost is .006130421865716 per gallon, lets round that to .007 LOL

Figure 5 gallons of domestic water for 1 gal of RO (total Use) Cost: .035 per gallon of usable water!!

Now just gotta figure in the filters and actual unit. But looks like the savings is HUGE!!

I think the "build your own" section on the BRS website is pretty good and the price is great. I do like the Spectrapure units though. They can definitely get exspensive but one of the best large units I have ever used.

I would like a unit that gets the best output. I heard about spectrapure, but I could not remember the name.

Build your own? I will take a look.

I have 2 customers that I had use the Bulk Reef BYO and both like their units. With the options they give you and I'm pretty sure they still have the free shipping on it, the price is really good. If you need I can help you configure one.

I am gonna take a look thanks.

I had one a long time ago.

I know that you can get multiple filters, and membranes and pressure pumps and DI chambers! I am at a loss with this. Tell me to rewire a house or redo plumbing and I can do with my eyes closed! LOL

I recommend a 75 gpd unit. As thats the most common size membrane.
As far as brands, don't matter much after the first set of filters are changed..
There r very few membrane manufacturers.
As long as what u choose has sediment, carbon, membrane, and a Di, your good to go. All the rest is just optional

hahah I just checked BRS for the BYO RODI (lots of letters LOL)

I have no clue! I fell dumb right now. 1 micron stage1, then what micron for 2, or carbon.

LOL. can anyone help me out?

Or should I just buy an already configured unit?

Here are some things to look for in a good system for this hobby:

No more than 4 stages (sediment, carbon, RO, DI) unless you have specific water quality issues you want to address
Standard-sized prefilters, membrane, and DI cartridge
Brand name, high-rejection membrane
Specifications provided for each stage
Pressure gauge after the prefilters and before the membrane
Thermometer
TDS meter (handheld or in-line)
DI bypass
Vertical DI stage
Refillable DI cartridge
Aluminum bracket
Quick connect fittings
No water from pressurized storage container delivered to DI
Flush valve
Clear housings
High-quality instructions written in clear English
Customer support before, during, and after your purchase
A vendor involved in your hobby
