What a Night....and Morning

I'll actually do a real tank thread for this....but after completing the big move last Thursday, it was time to move(upgrade) my FOWLR tank from the old place. After setting up all the equipment and moving the live rock and letting it run for a few days, I was ready to move the livestock (Harlequin Tusk, A Polleni Grouper, A Zebra Moray and a snowflake eel)...or so I thought.

(bio wheel is not staying, it was just there to help clear the water up)

Amazingly the eels were much easier to catch than I thought. The Zebra is almost 3 feet.

(Sorry for the crappy BB pics, I'll pull the Canon out later for some better pics.)

I woke up this morning and there was a wet (thank God) Snowflake eel on the floor. This guy got through the only spot on the tank that was not covered, a small space near the heater. Anyway, I grabbed him to put him back in the tank....he slipped out of my hand, well my glove, then I finally got him back in the tank, where he swam back into one of his caves. I guess I'm not the only one getting used to a new place. BTW I have had this guy for a year and a half in a 30 gallon breeder with the top open most of the time with no issues. I think I will be placing netting over the small holes in the glass top. Hopefully he is ok, seems so now.

From what I've heard...even if the eel looks 'dried up', put it back in the tank...there is still a chance of it surviving!

+1 to tank cover...you were lucky, before...but they are 'escape artists'!

Glad he made it!! Any hope for that fish that jumped out of my tank a year ago lol? Should I go looking for him?

Eels

Glad he survived. When I first got my current operating tank, I was upgrading from a 55 gal to a 90 gallon and bought an exisiting system from a reefer in the central part of the state. It was a great system thats been running here now for several years, however with the new system I got a 3' spotted eel. Although I like seeing them in the wild on scuba dives, he would always creap me out in the tank as he always seemed to want to check out my hands whenever I would even get close to the top of the tank to feed the fish. After 3 months of him being here, I woke up one morning to find him under the tank on the floor in spite of the glass covers i have on top. He was clearly dry and seemed very dead. In spite of him freaking me out regularly, I really did not want him to commit suicide as I was planning on trading him to LFS for something else and had just worked out the deal. Guess he heard me talking and didnt want to go :spin:

Yeah I was lucky I found it and not my fiance, she might have stomped on it! Everything seems to be doing fine...Tomorrow is the big move/upgrade of my reef! With the help of some true pros, I think that one will go just fine also.
