How much live sand should I use on a 40G

Starting a new setup how much live sand should I use in a 40 Gallon tank and is it ok to mix it with fine sand?? Please help.

the amount of sand that is put into a tank is more of a preference. I personally like very deep sand beds,

Unless you are keeping jawfishes or some forms of gobies, its really up to you. There are many reefers who have bare bottom tanks but at the same time there are some who have tanks with a 6in deep sand bed.

Going with 20 pounds just enough to cover the bed

Don't really know yet but I'd like a variety so I don't wanna limit myself cause of sand

Well, some gobies need deep sand beds and some don't need any sand bed. you're better off figuring which you want first and going from there.
