Corallium Rubrum (red coral)

anyone ever heard or seem this coral live? it can be made into precious jewellery/gem and it doesn't seem to be photosynthetic

A LFS in AZ sold them before I moved here. They had them FS and also in a non photosynthetic display. They needed to target feed often to keep the polyps open. I considered buying one, but I don't see myself target feeding this thing multiple times a day.

Looks cool for sure though!

thanks..any idea how much they go for? i'll imagine it would be pricy since this is rumored to be mystical and all that ...

According to the book Corals of the world, the ruby coral belongs in the sea fan family and is found through out the Mediterranean. They are not photosynthetic and must be target fed. I hope this helped.

No clue as to how much they were selling them for. I'll call them later today when they open(they're on west time) and ask them.
