We are trying to gather ideas for the upcoming website upgrade. Here is what we have so far:

Faster server
More bandwidth
Inline photo uploads
Subscription based threads
Fix email notifications
Better photo gallery and link to profiles
Better chat room
Tank of the Month page
Fix search engines spidering problem

Please respond if you have any additional requests.

Thanks!

that's a big list. here are my thoughts fwiw.

Faster server ? I'm on a cable modem, seems fast enough for me.
More bandwidth ? okay
Inline photo uploads ? would be great
Subscription based threads ? very needed
Fix email notifications ? okay
Better photo gallery and link to profiles ? okay
Better chat room ? not to many people use the chat room, is it because it does not work that well? or because they just don't want to chat?
Tank of the Month page ? sounds good
Fix search engines spidering problem ? too technical for me

my other ideas:
add more smiley face choices
update the graphic interface slighty
maybe set up a section that has a format people follow for making tank threads.
and have a button that will take you to the persons tank thread in all the posts, like the website button.

What I like:
I like the reef graffiti section
I like being able to edit your old posts, this makes keping tank logs easy.
And I like the people that post on MR.

That list is pretty good. What Jonathan suggested is good, but there is no need to put everything up at once. As long as everything get improves and updated that would be great.

How about a section for a reference library.
we could have an organized index with links for the best articles on the web for everything reef related. instead having to search through many posts to find the link you want it could be alphabetical with precise headings.

a similar area could be set up for writing reviews of products and materials. separate sections for pumps, test kits, salt, etc. someone could start a new product review and others can add there thoughts after the main review, kind of like the pages on Amazon.

All good ideas - I like the ref library idea - draws people to the site who need info on "how to" - but would need disclaimer on how to choose them.

more bandwidth - even with cable, my connection is delayed when there are many users logged in

galler upgrade is a must - can't delet old or archive etc.

Subscriptions is a reat feature since you may want to read and not talk (not likely for me, but . . .)

i like the reviews idea. there are often many choices when it comes to everything from equipment to addititves and good reviews may at least help us make the best choices.
i also like the edit features of the posts, allows us to delete useless posts or threads and to update posts (especially on selling posts)

I think we could do without the "Marketplace" tab. I've only seen one thing listed on there since I've been on the site.
Could probably make that tab the "Chat" tab so that way more people would notice it, and maybe even more people would use it to discuss/work out trades, sales, etc...

how about a wishlist feature?

sign up to get notified when someone has something specific to sell/trade.

that's cool, I don't know much of PHP, but that's not my job

the VBB looks cool, lots of stuff you can do with it, and it gives you the subscriptions that we all want. sweet.

PHP and mySQL makes a good combination. The back-end I use is phpmyadmin; you can automatically repopulate the relational mySQL databases with the old flat-text perl data files so the posts here won't be lost.

iirc vbulletin is a commercial product; there are also free php ports of yabb.

on the home page a link to your profile, also your buddy list on the home page would be cool.

larger area for reef graffiti, or have the last post on the top, can you do this? anyway the reef graffiti can refresh by itself?
