Have any of you guys ever posted auctions on ebay? I posted my first two tonight. I'm not sure what to expect. Just wondering what you've experienced.

These are the two I have. Both are starting at $.99 with no reserve. Did I make a mistake doing that?

How do you work it if someone local to you wins an auction? Obviously you don't want to charge shipping if they are close. But you don't want to leave it off the auction in case you do have to ship. This stuff is confusing as heck. Old men and newfangled computer stuff = old man and abacus as more comfortable. :sad2:

what i've experienced is that not many corals sell for all that much SPS dont sell for all that much its the LPS that go for a lot of money. USually the people who have sold and have gotten very high feedbacks such as reefgardener he sells all of his stuff at way oh jeebus prices.

Just be careful - make it clear they don't pay shipping if they pick up but set a time limit and local method of payment like cash only. Because my brother sold his laptop last year on ebay and the local buyer paid by PayPal then picked up then claimed the item was never received and Paypal doesn't allow local pickups without a "tracking #" LOL so the buyer got the laptop free. It happens all the time with local pickups on everything from garden hose to cars.

Sweet, that is the kind of information I need. Thank you very much.

Aaron, I know the experienced sellers get ridiculous $$ for their stuff. That's why I was curious about what I should expect and if I made a mistake about the $.99 offering? Good info though, thanks.

Rb, I should have put Ultra Rare. lol. I addressed that point in the auction description actually. I hate the overuse of the word rare in those auctions. That's why I didn't do it. Besides, is it rare? Those colors are really hot, and, I haven't seen that color combination before, so does that make it rare? Not sure if I'm qualified to make that designation.

Thanks everyone. And Tony, Jose, have fun >>>>>Thank you, that was very nice of you guys.

Russ people put rare on all of their things to try and get a better sell. Putting them at .99 cents lures the bidder. I really think the only successful ebay seller of coral and livestock in general is ReefGardener. The way he portrays his "unique" items and text and the way he sells his stuff is really remarkable.
Gota learn from him.

Russ, I always put things up with a $.99 opening bid (even if it's $1000 microphone) You don't pay as high a fee then.

In this case, how much would you really sell them for? What's the lowest price? Then you either need to set a reserve, or have a friend put in a bid for just below it. If someone else is bidding, the'll spend the extra $.50 to get it. You get the sale, and the price you want!

You can state in the 'shipping' that there is "local pickup with cash payment" Or you can charge $10 for priority mail. It's a shroom, you could easily throw it in a bag in some tupperware and throw it in the mail. (once it gets a bit warmer)
