Whats the big concern about them? i see everywhere to advoid...but mainly because they do not eat anything prepared, and will distroy SPS, not so much anything soft of lps. is the big issue with them mainly because they are not good eaters, or because its just an unhealthy fish?

i been reading alot about them, and im tired of random opinions. i figured someone on here has had one in the past or has one now, and wanted to hear what you felt about them...

To start with they're strictly polyp eaters, SPS polyps, and unless you can supply them with a large amount they'll died. You'll usually find them listed under Assort. Butterfly fish, so they're just rounded up and shipped out. They come in usually very small and thin, haven't eat in quite some time, and mos die within a short period afterwards for starvation.

So can you keep one? Sure you can, it will take a large SPS tank and the ability to scarifies corals to keep it alive.

The chance that you do get them to eat prepared food is very slim, and even then they'll most likely waste away and die. As with a lot of the BF in the Chaetodon Family most need to feed on SPS polyps to survive.

Face it, the fish is fairly cheap and show up a lot of time as an Assort. BF, but it's a very specialized feeder and unless you can supply it with the correct food its just not going to make it.

ok thanks marrone.

ill see what happens, but i know someone who had one, and he had it for about half a year now, and he said it never touched coral, and loved anything frozen but when he added a stanghorn, it LOVED it and ate the whole thing, so he rehomed it... to me. i fed it today and it ate a mix of mysis and sperlina brine, and alot of red glacelaris algae. the tank i put him in has no sps. thing is is that im sure something is wrong with him because he got it half a year ago, and since then it never grew yet. its about 2 inches long, and 2 1/2 inches tall. he was at first going to give it to someone new to the hobby and knew nothing about fish, or give it to me. i wanted it, but knew between me or this other guy, it would most likely be able to make it live a bit longer in my set up then his.

i guess ill be playing the waiting game unless i find someone who really wants him, and ill rehome him. i took him not intending on keeping him forever, but just long enough to keep it alive hopefully...and if it for some aparent reason does great, maybe keep. if not, LFS here i come with a free fishy...

are you sure it wasn't c. triagulum? the two look almost the same except the baronessa lacks the black tail.

Honestly man, I know nothing about butterflies, that's why I been researching so much about them. you could very well be right, He just told me baronessa.

Are those easier to keep alive? Maybe that's why he is eating so much so well!

Can't tell if the tail is black or if its just the picture quality, but both triangle butterfly's are hard to keep but the baronessa is known to be harder to get to eat other food. Before I went to college I had the had triaguium butterfly that was able to live for 3 years before I gave it away. I definitely do not recommend this to anyone who does not have good experience with butterflies.
