Well, got the tank to the new apartment (a shout out to Mike and his cool truck for the help!) and have the bulkheads etc. all in place. Now for a trip to Home Depot to get some more teflon tape for the water blaster pumps and then filling will commence. Since the tank is a new setup, I'm going to fill it with R/O, mix in the salt then add the live sand.

Kathy C has talked me out of elevating my live rock off the bottom (made some really good points about my Jawfish). I'll place it on the floor of the tank and then pour in sand around it. I need to let the new tank cycle before transfering my fish and corals. So, can I pull the base rock out of the old tank without causing a tank crash - i.e. disturbing the lower, anaerobic areas of the deep sand bed and thowing the nitrogen cycle out of whack? It will still have to be able to house my critters until the new tank is ready.

Robin, I can offer a great tip for adding a new sandbed without any sandstorm.

First, since this is a new tank and you want to mix the salt right in the tank (no problem there), just add the ro/di water to the system.....AFTER you put the sand in the tank.

Cover the sandbed with a large plastic garbage bag cut to the rectangular shape of the tank. Put a pot on the garbage bag and pour the ro/di into the pot until the tank is filled.

Next, add the salt to your sump and it will circulate through the tank and everything will stabilize naturally.

Nice and easy, no sand all over your rock, no milky sandstorm to wait to settle......just crystal clear water.

Best of luck with your new setup. It's beautiful.

Tank looks great. If you are running the WB internal a leak should not pose a problem. I've had my WB 5 for a year and it is the best pump I've used. No heat, little consumption and small foot print.

On another note, I happen to agree with regards to the bio reactor, I've had the Octopus for about 4 months and its simple and easy to clean.
