Got my Evolution LED lights the other day and decided to hang them from this overhang that juts out from the ceiling. I bought steel cable and made looped ends to hang. However, after making them and measuring out the spots to put in the toggle bolt, I drill and find out that the overhang is actually a vent. There's metal under the drywall and since I'm renting I'd rather not puncture the vent. Any ideas on how to hang my lights now?

I made custom mount for my new lights that I am getting. Check my 75gal thread. Link below

Nice tank build and lighting mount. I have the DB 57 gallon rimless and will be starting a thread soon. Unfortunately for me, I filled up the tank and its near the end of the cycle already so I put lighting mounts behind the tank unless I tear everything down.

Not really. You can mount from the inside. Just drill holes from inside the stand and you cause bolts with wing nuts to fasten them.

Gotta think outside the box.

Do you have access to the back of the stand? If you do you can go to home depot and get some electric conduit (pipe) and bend the ends 90 degrees. Get a few straps and attach the pipes to the back of your stand then you can hang the lights from the pipes.

I am thinking it is standard stand with 57 Rimless on it. If he can't get to the stand he will have to go with some sort of mount on the wall.

What about putting some sort of shelf up and hanging the lights from the shelf. How heavy are the lights??

Here's the tank and the overhang, I had to edit the picture to hide my scape. Don't want to ruin the build thread that I'll start. Notice the two holes where I was supposed to put the toggle bolts. I actually might think about using the conduit and mounting it to the wall. The light is about 10lbs.

How much did it cost for everything? Also, how many conduit straps do you think it would take to secure it to drywall? What size pipe did you use?

Hey Richie! I measured it up 1.5" from the bottom edge of the overhang. Haha. Not sure if I want to risk making more holes. Also, the toggle bolt probably won't be able to open up even if it is at 1".

I'm afraid that the weight of the lights would pull any screws out. Not sure if there's a beam in there either, I tried the knuckle test and doesn't sound like there is one.
